School traffic remains an issue

Last election, I promised to help make school traffic congestion and safety a priority. It’s taken longer than expected, but we have two fully funded and near shovel-ready projects at and around West Forsyth High School.
Stop light at Holder Road
The stop light for Holder Road is not fully funded. We were approved for Design and Right-of-Way acquisitions. The design is complete and approved by NCDOT. However, the project is on hold due to the recent approval by the County Commissioners for the School/Commercial project submitted by Stan Forester. It is our understanding that the intersection improvements will not be made until the commercial part of the project occurs. The Charter School will be built, which did not require the stop light installation by NCDOT. Additionally, the developer is proposing an alternate design, which our approved plans will not be used. NCDOT has committed to keeping us in the loop.
Pedestrian resources
We're working on a sidewalk that will connect August Drive to the stoplight at Southwest School Road and Lewisville-Clemmons (LC) Road.
This sidewalk project will include the installation of a crosswalk from the eastern side of LC to the Western side of LC with pedestrian activated signals (PEDHEADS) at the signalized intersection of Southwest School Road and LC.
Parking lot improvements
The on-Campus improvements are funded from an NCDOT Grant applied for and obtained by the Village of Clemmons for West Forsyth to reduce vehicle impacts (stopping and stacking) on LC as well as provide a safer environment for student drop off/pick up. The expected construction will take place the summer of 2026.
What about Clemmons Elementary?
The Village has worked with the FCSO and Traffic engineers to provide a safer and more efficient traffic flow for student drop off, as we as to remove the stacking of vehicles on LC and Stadium Drive, which are major collector roads. From what I understand, there are still infrastructure improvements that need to take place to manage the continued student growth.
